What is the opportunity?
As an Investment Strategist in our Portfolio Advisory Group (PAG), you will be responsible for enabling RBC US Wealth Management’s (USWM) Financial Advisors by delivering consistent investment advice and solutions to their clients with the highest level of competency and confidence. Specifically, the Investment Strategist will work alongside the Multi-Asset Portfolio Strategist, Wealth Strategist, and other internal teams on developing, coordinating, and executing high-net-worth (HNW) capabilities and empowering Financial Advisors with better capabilities around personalized investment plans for our clients.
What will you do?
Advisor Support and Client Engagement: Participate in activities to ensure the successful development, execution, and promotion of USWM HNW capabilities.
Collaborate with financial advisors, acting as a primary point of contact for PAG for HNW.
Responsible for providing high-touch service, on-going comprehensive investment advice and guidance
Activities will be related to all aspects of investment advice including bespoke asset allocation, investment policy statement development, investment selection, risk management, and ongoing portfolio reviews
Coordinate with other internal wealth strategists and partners to ensure a holistic, unified team approach to relationships
Design complex investment solutions in accordance with HNW client’s investment objectives including income, charitable giving, and tax-efficiency
Create and implement a proactive service model for managing relationships
Gather, organize, and prepare investment presentations for HNW client meetings
Perform client portfolio reviews on a regular basis in conjunction with or on direction of the financial advisor or other internal partners
Strong understanding of the dynamics and intricacies of the global markets, and the ability to assess risk and opportunity across asset classes (e.g., fixed income. equity, and private alternatives)
Stay current on market trends to make informed investment decisions
Work with internal investment committee members to analyze the current economic and market environment to develop and communicate investment views and recommendations.
Represent our investment philosophy in client meetings and marketing efforts
Communicate market (our cross-asset investment views) and economic perspectives to clients, via client presentations, publications or product-oriented marketing programs
Relate key market developments to the positioning within managed portfolios to clients
Assist in the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the firm’s strategic asset allocation framework.
Work with internal partners to ensure consistent delivery/knowledge of asset allocation framework – serve as a trusted resource on asset allocation
Create educational and marketing materials around the firm’s strategic asset allocation framework including regular client approved commentary on asset allocation and other investment concepts, and provide timely and thoughtful responses to financial advisors seeking advice with respect to asset allocation and multi asset portfolio construction
Requirements
Must-have
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Finance or Economics
10+ years financial industry experience
5+ years of experience as an investment strategist or similar role
FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses
Previous experience working with financial advisors
Exhibits wealth management and investment products expertise including equities, fixed income, and alternative investments
Able to listen to client’s needs and make decisions/take actions that help clients achieve their long-term goals
Effective problem identification, analytical and resolution skills
Ability to distill complex or detailed financial information into key points and a recommendation
Knowledge of investment management disciplines such as asset allocation, portfolio construction, risk return analytics, performance measurement and reporting
Strong ability to interact with all levels of staff. Must be able to maintain relationships that will relate to the overall success of the established firm goals
Nice-to-have
CFA®, CAIA®, or CFP® designation or working to obtain
2+ years HNW client experience
Portfolio management experience
Experience in investment performance and risk analysis, particularly as it relates to multi-asset portfolio management
Experience recommending and researching private investment opportunities and how they fit into a well-diversified high-net worth portfolio
