The Role
Pathway is seeking an adaptable and technically proficient Director of Financial Planning & Investment Strategy. This dual-focus role is designed for someone who thrives on staying at the cutting edge of the financial planning profession while simultaneously driving the investment strategy of the firm. This person will ensure Pathway’s clients benefit from the broadest array of financial planning ideas possible while simultaneously shepherding the Firm’s investment strategies. Skills & Qualifications
Experience: Relevant experience in an advisory or investment management role.
Credentials: One or more of the following: CFP® certificant or candidate, CFA Level 1 or above, or advanced degree in an applicable financial discipline.
Key Qualities: Highly driven self-starter with strong attention to detail and natural curiosity. Proven track record of searching for and identifying solutions for a firm or their clients.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning
Pathway is dedicated to the continued development of our skills and related client solutions. We seek thoughtful innovations that create value for clients. The financial planning side of this role will continually monitor the financial planning landscape for topics relevant to our work. New ideas and refinement of existing tools shall be researched, distilled, and brought into an executable form to the firm’s client-facing professionals. Duties of this broad-ranging role include:
Remain at the forefront of the financial planning profession through ongoing activities, including:
- Participation in advanced industry education
- Regular review of relevant trade publications and professional journals
- Attendance at major financial planning conferences
- Participation in study groups and peer collaboration forums
Support the firm by:
- Leading the Financial Planning Committee
- Serving as a technical resource for Lead Planners on complex client cases and performing detailed research on technical matters. Providing peer reviews on complex or unique client issues.
- Establish, document, and monitor consistency of financial planning processes across the firm.
Stay current with and evaluate technology solutions that support advice delivery, including:
- Financial planning, tax planning, estate planning, and portfolio management applications
- Collaborating with the Operations Coordinator on technology implementation and optimization
Investment Strategy
Ensure that Pathway designs, implements, and maintains investment strategies aligned with client objectives and firm philosophy.
- Lead the Investment Committee and manage the firm’s Portfolio Implementation Guide (PIG)
- Continuously assess the economic and investment landscape for potential enhancements or modifications to the Firm’s investment strategy
- Serve as the subject-matter expert of the Firm’s portfolio management software and continually optimizing same
- Support Lead Planners with trading execution and portfolio management as needed
- Author the quarterly investment letter to clients
Other Duties
- Assist with production of client-facing educational content (e.g., videos, social media posts)
- Additional projects/tasks as they are identified
Wage Compensation Details:
Compensation $100,000- $250,000
*Final determination in salary will be based on individuals' experience and education. May vary slightly from the below levels.
Level I
This candidate will have some professional experience and credentials in either financial planning or investment management, but not both. Such candidate will be committed to building their knowledge and skills in the areas with gaps. This could include going through a degree and/or certification program(s) at the Firm’s expense. This will be done while quickly adding value to the firm in either the financial planning or investment management area.
Level II
This candidate has several years of experience in either the financial planning or investment management area. This experience is accompanied by the recognized professional credentials. The candidate will use their prior professional experience to immediately add value to the Firm while simultaneously gaining knowledge in areas where subject matter gaps are present.
Level III
This candidate will have significant experience in both financial planning and investment management. This experience is accompanied by the relevant professional credentials. The candidate will use their experience and skills to immediately add value to the firm in both the financial planning and investment management areas.
